They waged war against the Hagrites…. They were helped in fighting them, and God delivered the Hagrites and all their allies into their hands, because they cried out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers, because they trusted in him.

Perhaps in reading through the Bible, you skim across 1 Chronicles 1–9 because these chapters contain long lists of genealogies. Yet here and there, the writer paused to say something special about some of the people. In chapter 5, the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh went to war against the Hagrites. They prevailed, not because of their size or armaments but because of two critical weapons—prayer and faith. They cried out to God during the battle, and He answered because they trusted in Him.
